Built on Experience.
Focused on Construction.
We strengthen the business behind the build.
We work alongside contractors to bring greater clarity, structure, and support to the business—so they have more room to lead, grow, and focus on what they do best.
Where Cornerstone Began
Cornerstone didn’t start because I saw a gap in the consulting market. It started because I grew up around construction and eventually found myself working alongside my dad in his high-end custom home building and remodeling company.
I saw firsthand how quickly a business can grow beyond the work itself. The projects may be what everyone sees, but behind them are estimates, schedules, finances, employees, customers, paperwork, decisions, problems, and a phone that never seems to stop ringing.
In a lot of ways, Cornerstone was built in the passenger seat of a pickup truck.
That was where I began to understand the business from the owner’s side—not just what it takes to build something well, but what it takes to carry the responsibility for everything around it. I saw how easy it is for a talented contractor to become the estimator, salesperson, project manager, bookkeeper, problem solver, and final decision-maker all at once. And I saw how that weight doesn’t always stay at work. Sometimes it follows you home in the form of late nights, missed dinners, another phone call, or simply never feeling completely off.
The hard part is that many of these businesses are not struggling because the contractor lacks talent. Often, it is the opposite. They are busy because they are good. Opportunities keep coming. Customers trust them. Their reputation grows. But eventually the business begins asking more of the owner than one person can reasonably carry. Growth that should feel exciting starts creating pressure instead.
Being good at the work and building a great company are not always the same job.
Why Cornerstone Exists
That realization is a big part of why Cornerstone exists. We help contractors strengthen the business behind the work—understand their numbers, improve their systems, develop their people, work through difficult decisions, and create the structure needed for the company to grow without everything continuing to land on the owner. Sometimes that means sitting across the table and helping determine what needs to change. Sometimes it means rolling up our sleeves and helping carry the work. We believe the support should fit the business, not force the business into a predetermined program.
We also believe the best businesses are built with owners who still want to learn. Cornerstone works best with contractors who care about what they are building, who want to get better, and who are willing to make changes when something is holding the company back. They may want a larger company, a stronger team, better margins, fewer fires to put out, more time with their family—or simply the confidence of knowing the business is working the way it should. Whatever the goal, we want to work alongside owners who are serious about moving toward it.
At its core, Cornerstone is not about taking the contractor out of his business or creating another thing for him to depend on. It is about helping build a company that becomes stronger, clearer, and more capable because the owner has better information, better systems, better people, and trusted support around him. We want our clients to have room to lead, room to grow, and room to enjoy some of what they worked so hard to build.
We strengthen the business behind the build—so contractors can build something that works for them, too.
